Norm's Page

This page is in honor of a FLANC founding member and our indefatigable long-time Treasurer, Norman Litz.

In this page, we will gather, present and offer to you, information about scholarships and grants. Why? Well, Norman has been our money man, keeping FLANC afloat and always concerned about our finances. As a teacher, you are also concerned about these matters, and will appreciate some of these grant and scholarship opportunities, which will be presented to you, in honor of Norm. Teach on!

The Award is up to $1,500. The Award Winners will be contacted by June 2004 and announced at the FLANC Fall Conference.

This award was created to honor Gisèle Hart for her many years of service to FLANC. Mrs. Hart, now retired, who was a truly dedicated and enthusiastic French teacher and long-time FLANC Council member, has made significant contributions to the field of foreign language teaching. Purpose of the Award: To encourage beginning teachers to devote themselves to the language teaching field.


AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese) Awards

The Robert G. Mead Jr. Travel and Study Scholarship Award.
For travel and/or study ina Luso Hispanic country with a given proposal or goal in mind.

College/University Engaged Departments Awards

The Maria Isabel Abreu Prize for the Best Research Article on the Teaching of Portuguese as a Second Language
The Maria Isabel Abreu Prize for the Best Research Article on the Teaching of Portuguese as a Second Language in the amount of $500 is provided through the generosity of the family of Professor Abreu.


CLTA Awards and Grants 2004 (The California Language Teachers Association)


Faculty Grants & Student Scholarships - (California Colleges for International Education)

The CCIE Student Scholarship is awarded to any student who attends a CCIE member college and participates in an internationally oriented program. In case a student is unable to claim their award, the money will be returned to CCIE and given to competition alternates.


Blakemore Freeman Fellowships for Advanced Asian Language Study Grant

Blakemore Freeman Fellowships are awarded for one year of advanced language study in East or Southeast Asia in structured language programs or private tutorial programs where the primary focus is on study of the modern language.


Sons of Italy Western Foundation Scholarship Programs

The Sons of Italy Western Foundation and the Grand Lodge of California, Order Sons of Italy in America, are proud to provide college scholarships to eligible students. These scholarships range from $500.00 to $5,000.00. Additionally, Italian Language Study Grants are available for a one-month complete immersion course in Italian language at an Italian College.
