Notice of Position
Opening February 2008
Spanish Teacher
Grades Four, Five and Six

The San Francisco Friends School, a new Quaker school located in the Mission District of San Francisco, seeks an experienced Spanish teacher for September of 2008.  The school opened its doors in the fall of 2002 and will expand to include over 360 children, with two classes at each grade level.

The school seeks experienced teachers compelled by the Friends school mission, which includes an exemplary education supported by a community dedicated to peaceful problem-solving, service to others, simplicity, respect for the individual, and silent reflection.

The Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Grade Spanish teacher will teach 12 45-minute periods four days per week.  Each period will contain approximately 20 students.  Responsibilities will include curriculum design and development, faculty/staff meeting attendance, committee work, student assessment and parent communications.  The school supports a generous professional development program, encouraging teachers to attend workshops and seminars, visit schools, and learn about contemporary research relevant to the classroom and program.  The San Francisco Friends School seeks teachers particularly committed to community building, as our school will grow significantly in the upcoming years; we hope to find teachers who are energized by growth and change.

We are seeking a teacher who is familiar with the Total Physical Response teaching technique, a native speaker and has worked with students at the elementary school level.  This teacher must also be a self-starter, reliable, highly responsible, innovative and compassionate.
